Health Tips of the Week

Art of Care is committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle amongst its patients and throughout the community. Here are some tips for the week on how to stay healthy:

     1.       Choose your breakfast wisely

As you’ve probably heard, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It matters how much you eat and it matters what you eat. A larger breakfast could mean a large lunch and dinner. An unhealthy  breakfast is definitely not a good start for your body. So if you want to watch your energy intake and your health, make sure your breakfast is healthy and light. Think whole-grain toast, light cereals, and fresh fruit.

2.       Energize your body with H2O, sesame seeds, and apples

It’s important to stay hydrated, especially during the summer. Just a little dehydration can make you feel cranky and fatigued.  Sesame seeds are actually full of magnesium which your cells need to turn food into energy for your body so try adding them to some of your meals to keep your body energized. Last but not least, apples are a source of a very specific kind of chemical that keeps your endurance high. You can also get it from onions and tea.

3.       Sleep

A sure way to do nothing and burn more calories is to go to bed. When you get less sleep not only does your metabolism slow down, but your body produces a higher level of blood sugar level, stress hormones, and hunger-triggering hormones. Sleeping is also proven to have a direct effect on your brain capacity. So take a nap the next time you want to reenergize your body and mind!

4.       Protect Yourself

Wash your hands to stop the spread of germs, wear helmets, seatbelts, sunscreen, and insect repellent, build safe and healthy relationships with family and friends, avoid smoking and breathing other people’s smoke, and be ready for emergencies: make a supply kit, make a plan, be informed.

5.       Manage your stress

Above all, find a balance in yourself. Find time to relax and spend on yourself and stay positive.

6.       Eat healthy

Eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains every day and limit foods and drinks high in calories, sugar, salt, fat, and alcohol. Also, maintain moderate portions. Remember, it’s not just what you eat, it’s how much.

7.       Drink green tea

Green tea has a long and proven history as a traditional health remedy. On top of just being a great body cleanser, green tea has been proven to help in the following field: weight loss, anti-aging, asthma relief, lowering blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, and guarding against infections.

8.       Let your mind wander

Daydreaming is actually good for your brain! New research involving brain scan showed that when people are day dreaming the brain is actually working harder and in different ways.

9.       Take a bath

Soaking in the tub with Epsom salts and baking soda is not only soothing, but can alleviate muscle cramps and soreness. Epsom salts, like sesame seeds, contain magnesium to help your body convert food into energy.

10.   Get vaccinated

Vaccinations help prevent infectious diseases and save lives. It’s always better to prevent than to treat such a disease. Take a few minutes to protect yourself and others.
